On October 29, GetTreated joined 15 other startups for the final round the first-ever UpStart Armenian Startup competition, in Yerevan, Armenia. This competition was the brainchild of a cooperation between the newly-formed ‘Institute of Innovative Technologies’ (INIT), and the Microsoft Innovation Centre in Armenia.

The competition’s judges, which included the co-owner of the ABRT Venture Fund, Anton Timashev, the CEO of Synopsys Armenia, Dr Hovik Musayelyan, and Philippe Nerin from France evaluated applicants technology startups based on innovation, scalability, growth potential, and business model. The event was launched with an important video message by Emma Arakelyan, the managing Director for Accenture North America, who stressed the importance of managing expectations when financing startups.

The selection process included a first round of pitching, followed by mentorship from industry experts, and a final pitching round on the 29th of October. The list of finalists included all kinds of interesting companies ranging from idea-stage social businesses to profitable tech startups. Companies represented innovation in health tech, fin tech, shared economy, ed-tech, AR/VR, as well as enterprise SaaS.

2nd place finish:

Though GetTreated presented first out of 16 applicants, we were pleasantly surprised that the judges had gotten a clear understanding of our business, and asked relevant questions.

When we first started GetTreated, we were quite confident that GetTreated was among the more innovative Armenian startups. We took on the daunting task of disrupting the health sector. Our goal was to make access to healthcare affordable, and simple… but also fun. We were happy to see that the jury was on the same page!

We were thus very honoured to win the 2nd-place prize at the first-ever UpStart competition. This recognition of our work encouraged us to continue to perfect our platform so that we can offer our patients the best medical travel service available. The other winners were the map-based task-outsourcing startup MapWork, and Tereva, an app that brands itself as Shazam for plants.

Upstart has more to offer:

The UpStart organisers have made a point that innovation doesn’t end with the competition. They have signalled their commitment to continued mentorship and support for the startup finalists. More to come in the next couple of months!

Our current platform for effortless and affordable medical travel packages is literally a click away! We always appreciate user feedback as we improve our service.

Thanks,

the GetTreated Team
